How To Maneuver
How to Maneuver: Shape-shifting texts and other publishing tactics.
Warehouse 421_ Mina Zayed_ Abu Dhabi_
10.12.2019 / 16.02.2020
‘How to reappear brings questions on power, access, and right to publish to the fore and explores the efforts to reclaim the agency to publish, focusing on publications that maneuver around restrictive publishing regimes’
The concept proposal for this exhibition holds strongly to this curatorial idea and attempts to reflect it spatially through a bold architectural gesture representing independent publishing.
Given the transparency of Warehouse421 with its open galleries and courtyards, gave us the chance to create a wide platform that shifts from the existing architecture to link all the dispersed content within the space. With the neutrality of the colors and materials at the gallery, this platform pops up as a monochrome gesture that hosts all content – from books to screenings to displayed objects – and it creates space for bigger installations to cross the color limit and bleed into the negatives and courtyards. All together creating a holistic scene for the show, while maintaining flexibility of the content distribution and free ways of circulation depending on the curation.
