Elevate_House of Today Design Biennale_
3Beirut_ Lebanon_ 14.12.2018 / 28.12.2018
The theme of the fourth edition of House of Today’s design biennial is elevate, to which all the invited product designers have responded.
Our approach to the architecture of the exhibition is to use ubiquitous and familiar material in transformative ways. Replacing pedestals with vast swathes of rough carpet, the exhibited objects sit against monochrome texture. These curving waves blend floor with wall, allowing each designer’s work to hover against a sweeping, seamless backdrop. The undulating central space is contained by lengths of louvered curtain, falling uniformly from above, and looping back on themselves. In profile these look like solid walls, while at an angle they appear in outline—voids swollen with volume. In contrast to the strong upward sweep of the carpet, the curtains hover subtly in space, maintaining a sense of suspended animation.
