SIGHT by Ghaith Abou Ghanem & Jad Melki
Mirror | Cast aluminium, rough concrete, coconut fibers | 17.5 × 33.5 × 18 cm| 12 kg
A sculptural mirror, created to hold the viewer’s gaze, and handcrafted to reflect a tradition of artisanship. The mirrors’ fuzzy back, in the shape of eyelids, came as a result of the flexible fibered mold used for the concrete casts. The grip of the concrete cast on the coconut fibers creates an organic and unique natural texture. The watery reflective surfaces are crafted by metalworking artisans using cast brass with a nickel finish.
Commissioned by @almaz_collectibledesign in collaboration with @thereadyhand to be sold at the auction held during the LIFE Global Gala Dinner 2023 to raise funds for the LIFE Education Programme @lifelebanonuk
